A few weeks before the kickoff, pressure rises, nearly 3000 team members competing with over 250 classic and modern yachts prepare to race in this vintage event which promises to be thrilling.
With the complicity of the municipality, the organizers have once again planned to involve the public and spectators in St Tropez in this unique celebration of sailing, continuing a tradition that began in 1981 with the very first Nioulargue.
The Wally Yacht invasion
For the last 11 years, the Wally’s have become one of the major attractions of the week:
People now come specifically to see and to dream about the Wally, a wish which is easily feasible now because much of the fleet of futuristic super yachts line up in the Old Port of Saint-Tropez, along the shore bordering the Museum of the Annunciation, they are the only modern boats to enjoy this privilege.
Present at the Voiles since the first edition, these extraordinary machines created by the team of Luca Bassani make a wonderful show on the water.
If the automation of some of the gear makes it easier to handle when cruising with a reduced crew, it is with teams of more than 25 members that they embark on the racing on board larger vessels, such as « Esense », one of Wally’s measuring 143 feet (43 meters) carrying 900 m2 of fabric.
